Ciiklas
a musical drama by Gabriel Urgell Reyes
Beaumarchais-SACD laureate

Synopsis
The musical drama Ciiklas describes, from a main thematic tableau, the sequence of events that lead Ciiklas to dramatically transform her own existence. It is a story of resilience, about respecting life choices, of detachment and emancipation.
The Prologue is a sound fresco depicting the environment and the states of mind of the characters. These are sound convergences representing places frequented by them and which will become decisive anchor points for the development of their stories.
The First Act shows the daily life of Ciiklas, a single woman immersed in a working life, helping selflessly with projects of general interest in her spare time. She meets Jona, a new colleague, with whom the relationship is fluid and seem to go without saying. Ciiklas comes to share Jona's life, which introduces her to Lillia, Jona's longtime friend. A strange person comes to transmit to Ciiklas sensitive information about Jona and Lillia, which pushes her to question the nature of her relationship to them. She starts to distance herself while trying to keep this attitude from being obvious to Jona and Lillia.
The Second Act illustrates the existential crisis in which Ciiklas finds herself and the decisions she makes to try to get out of it. At the climax of the drama, she invites Jona and Lillia to a party at the "Jardin du Pont" in which they can meet this new stranger, reserved and sharp, become close to Ciiklas, and to whom they seem to have already been linked.
The Epilogue shows the characters leaving the place, strucked by the experience lived at the Jardin du Pont, while Ciiklas's strange friend stares at them.

Ciiklas is a transdisciplinary project, combining musique mixte (acoustic and electronic), visual and digital arts, dance and poetry.
The synergy established between the processes of musical, pictorial, literary and choreographic composition emanates from the prefiguration of a «scene-tableau» involving the main characters. The artistic disciplines are linked by concepts such as the monumentality of detail, time scales in music, or the links between classic and popular music. Several artistic mediums thus merge, creating a "map of the work" which challenges ideas about the opera in the 21st century.
By its structure, the musical drama Ciiklas is adaptable to open and flexible performance spaces such as a multidisciplinary art centers, art galleries, museums...
